W: Of course. Are you registered with this 3practice?
M: Not yet. Can we still see the vet?
W: Of course, I just need to 4take a few details from you first.
M: Good. What do you need to know?
W: Your 5surname, and contact details and your dog’s name and age.
M: My name is Griffin, my phone number is 8519-1980, my dog is called Brian and he’s 7.
W: Thanks. We can give you an appointment this afternoon at 3:15.

  1. make an appointment 是個動詞片語，表示「預約；約定」之意。若要表達「和（某人）約」，即 make an appointment with ＋人。
  2. see the vet 表「看獸醫」。一般人去診所「看病」或「看醫生」可直接說 see a doctor 或 see the doctor。
  3. practice 為名詞，在此指「診所；開業場所」。
  4. take a few details 表「記錄下一些資料」的意思。take 在此應解釋為「記下；寫下」。

  1. would like（想要）的意思與 want 相同，但較 want 有禮貌，大多適合用於會話之中。
  2. could 在此表「可以」之意，是「極為客氣」的語氣，用來表示「建議」。
  3. block 為名詞，表「街區」，因此 the next block 可解釋為「下一個街區」，也就是中文常說的「下個紅綠燈路口」之意。
  4. fancy 為動詞，表「喜愛；想要」，與 want 的意思相近，是口語用法。
  5. There’s always... 的句型是用來表達「無論如何總是可以...；不管怎樣總有...」的意思。
